Art Critique Of Famous Artwork

Today we will look at an art piece called Depression by Tanya-Dawn-Art. Tanya-Dawn-Art herself said that this piece off art is the fourth piece of a five-piece series about grief.  It was submitted on devianart.com by her on July 5, 2010. This piece shows a woman whose hair is a mess and all over the place. The woman has bags and lines under her eyes.  The background as well as her skin color is a darkish blue hue. Lines are very big in this artwork as you can see what seem to be scribbles to create this piece. The woman’s body gets cut off from her neck and she’s the only subject on the canvas.
The color off this piece is very dark and I believe it fits very well with the subject going through grief. The only shape are lines and its as if she barely lifts her art tool when drawing this because there are lines everywhere. The artist used value in this piece because the darker shading under the cheek bones show how frail and bone-like this woman’s face is. there are no continuities because everything about this artwork is everything is different, even the crazy hairs on this woman’s head.
The artist said it is about grief, but it is titled Depression because I think that depression is what happens after yore done going though grief. This piece perfectly shows grief and the early stages of depression because the woman looks so tired and broken by how ill she looks. The bags under her eyes, she is the same color as the background which is a darkish blue hue, and the lines are used to accentuate her tiredness. I would say that there is enough evidence, as I listed, to say that my thinking is correct.
At first glance you notice the messy lines but then when you stare at it again and read the title you understand that the messy lines were intentional. I really loved the technique and how effortlessly the artist created this artwork on such a difficult subject. I feel like this piece is just about what somebody looks like during grief, I don’t think its that deep. However, I am moved by it because I feel her pain, I haven’t experienced grief but ii have experienced other things that make me feel the same way that this painting is radiating. I love this artwork because I feel as though I have felt what the woman was feeling in this piece.
